Foreword

The amazing nature of Montenegro has its extraordinary mysterious beauty in the underground labyrinths of mountains and islands. Caves and grottos have great educational, geographical and historical value. There are hundreds of interesting but little-explored caves on the territory of Montenegro.

Blue Grotto

It is near the city of Herceg Novi and has an inner lake more than 40 meters deep with crystal clear water.

The Blue Cave (Plava špilja) on the Lustica Peninsula in Montenegro is one of the most popular attractions on the Adriatic coast. The area of the cave is approximately 300 m². This is the largest of the many caves both above and below water on the Lustica Peninsula. You can get into the cave only by boat through one of two openings 3 m high and 15 m wide. The height of the vaults reaches 9 m, the water depth is 5 m, so a small boat can float in the cave .

The cave is called blue because of the color of the water inside. Sunlight falling on the sandy bottom is reflected, coloring the water a unique azure color. The blue glow of the water reflecting off the walls of the cave illuminates everything in amazing shades of blue and indigo. This is truly a unique place.

Dzhalovicha cave

It has impressive dimensions in the rocks of the gorge (Dzhalovicha gorge) of the Bystrica mountain river. About forty kilometers away is the town of Bielo Pole.

"Lipska Cave"

In the course of the Cetina River, in the places where the mountains pass, the "Lipska Cave" was created with amazingly beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the little-known caves of Cetinska with its main channel and two galleries, Obodska with many stones and rocks in near the Crnojevica river.

Cave "Red Wall"

The "Red Wall" cave with a thousand-year history, famous for ancient artifacts indicating that people lived here thousands and tens of thousands of years ago, is of archaeological and historical value.

“The Ice Cave”

It is fabulous and difficult to access, with ice tongues and sculptures, not far from the Zabljak ski resort.

“The Iron Pit”

It is located near Mount Maganik and is more than a kilometer long. Difficult to reach and the deepest in Montenegro
